PORT LOUIS, Mauritius--Brinks Mauritius has designed and installed a harbor-wide surveillance system here centered around IndigoVision's IP-based video technology which allows a number of different agencies to monitor their own operations within the port.
Based in a new central control room and a number of sub-control rooms, the Mauritius Police, National Coast Guard, Customs and Port Authority can access live and recorded video from numerous cameras located inside and outside port buildings.
"Brinks has always maintained a key differentiation over other system integrators by exceeding the expectations of its customers," Brinks Mauritius project manager Vikash Augnu said in a statement. The site was complex, Augnu explained, and required a solution that could be easily installed. "As a key member of the system design and execution team, I was amazed at the flexibility that the IndigoVision system provides, while still being a very robust solution," he said.
Each agency's operators use IndigoVision's Control Center security management software to view live and recorded video from any of the cameras on the system. As Control Center is licensed on an unrestricted basis within the cost of IndigoVision hardware, workstations can be deployed for the costs of an entry-level PC. The Mauritius Port Authority (MPA) took advantage of that, installing 3 workstations with 21 spot monitors in its main control room along with an additional 9 workstation in 5 sub-control rooms.
"The system has been a great benefit to the MPA and other agencies," said Augnu. "Petty theft has decreased, they have improved surveillance of the main gates, enhanced control and monitoring at the terminal and quay areas and have much better deterrence, particularly in the customs area."
