IndigoVision delivers shopping center CCTV upgrade in UK
MANCHESTER, UK--VideoTec Ltd has installed a new digital CCTV surveillance system from IndigoVision for the Wythenshawe shopping center here, upgrading the facility's old analog matrix system to the latest distributed IP network solution.

The decision to go with the IndigoVision system followed an analysis of options by the shopping center's owner and operator, St. Modwen Properties, which was looking for a solution that would provide minimum downtime during the switchover and allow for the possibility of future expansion.

The system comprises 40 cameras watching over both internal and external retail units at the center, all monitored and controlled by operators using IndigoVision's Control Center IP video and alarm management software. Screen configurations in the control room can be changed as needed; for example, during the day primary displays show the cameras around the shopping areas, while at night focus moves to perimeter protection.

The shopping center management is pleased, saying the new system has "transformed" its surveillance operations. "The video quality is excellent and Control Center provides us with a set of tools to quickly search and analyze recorded footage," Alastair Budd, asset manager at St. Modwen Properties, said in a statement.

The requirement to keep CCTV footage for 31 days is managed via three IndigoVision standalone NVRs, helped along by the company's compression technology, which means that high-resolution video from all cameras can be continuously recorded at 12 fps for the required period. Video clips can also be exported to the police for evidential purposes in the event of an incident.
