BERN, Switzerland--Imprivata, a converged identity and access management appliance company, has been selected by the Swiss Red Cross (SRC) to provide secure, compliant access to confidential data for its employees.
The SRC, Switzerland's oldest and largest relief organization, manages an array of sensitive information, including health data for patients and background information for migrants. The organization's staff had been using a password-based system to access applications, but as passwords multiplied, time and money were increasingly being wasted dealing with the problem of forgotten passwords.
STORY CONTINUES BELOWAdvertisement As a result, the SRC began a search for a solution that could not only address the security and employment productivity issues, but that would also be cost-effective and easy to manage.
The answer to their problems came in the form of Imprivata's appliance-based OneSign platform. The platform proved easy to use and implement, and the SRC was able to learn applications themselves and fully support the appliance in-house after one day's training.
OneSign Authentication Management replaces Windows and remote access VPN passwords with a range of authentication options, including integrated management for one-time password (OTP) tokens, finger biometrics, smartcards, proximity cards and building access cards.
With the new system, the SRC's 550 employees are all using OTP tokens to gain secure entry to applications and can do so from wherever they may be located, including from developing countries or regions hit by natural disasters.
"Using Imprivata, our staff has secure access to their applications from wherever they are in the world, and we no longer have to worry about managing passwords," the head of the SRC's IT deparment, Benno Stucki, said in a statement.
