Siemens, Vakt win EUR 15mln contract with Norway's SpareBank1
OSLO--Siemens Building Technologies and its partner Vakt Services, Scandinavia's third-largest security services company, have won a EUR 15mln contract to provide a complete security and services solution to SpareBank1, an alliance of 23 banks and 350 franchised offices.

SpareBank1 was looking for a solution that could upgrade video surveillance, intrusion detection and access control systems for all of its branches while offering unity through central operation.

The answer came in the form of a new system platform from Siemens' Central Monitoring Staion (CMS) in Norway, which utilizes the client's security LAN. At Siemens' CMS, a dedicated SpareBank1 security center has been created with its own dedicated phone lines, email addresses and trained staff. The center will manage information from all locations, offer support on technical questions, receive service calls and remotely manage the security systems.

This enables the control of various security functions, such as access control, intrusion detection and video surveillance, from a single, central point. For example, whenever events trigger access or intrusion alerts, video recording will start and live images will be received to provide verification at the CMS from where, if necessary, intervention forces will be alerted.

According to SpareBank1, the new system has not only increased security, but has helped to cut costs. "Although there is no 100 percent guarantee against robbery, we have created a complete solution that is able to adapt to threat levels and increase the speed of response to events, while at the same time we have reduced our costs," SpareBank1 security chief Ole Jorgen said in a statement.
