READING, UK--Six years after completing an initial CCTV deployment at the GreenPark business park here, Siemens Building Technologies has returned to upgrade the system with the latest technology under a cost-efficient renewed rental agreement.
Since Siemens installed the first phase of security systems, the site has grown from a one millions square foot office development to a 2.25 million square foot hub which now includes a retail development that includes a restaurant, nursery and health club.
STORY CONTINUES BELOWAdvertisement The new equipment provides high-resolution, low-light color/mono technology for enhanced surveillance of the site roadways and includes the addition of two ANPR cameras each at the northern and southern vehicle access points. Three cameras have also been added to cover pathways leading into the park.
The existing digital recording technology has also been completely upgraded, with all of the business park's cameras now recording at a higher resolution than was possible when the system was originally installed.
The original cameras recorded only on a motion detection basis, but as activity in the park increased, that system became inadequate. Cameras now run 24 hours a day, recording 25 frames per second on a 31-day cycle. Advanced search facilities have also been added to let operators locate specific incidents on the recordings more quickly.
All of the changes were made under a renewed rental agreement that was put in place at the beginning of the project, with the aim of giving the client the flexibility needed to take advantage of the latest developments without a major cost increase on the current payments. Under the arrangement, the installation hardware was bought on a capital cost basis, with the remainder of the CCTV contract placed within a Siemens rental agreement. "The purpose of this split payment agreement was to include Siemens within the life of the system," Bill Downie of the system's co-designer with Siemens, Kelly Taylor, said in a statement.
